That was uncalled for, and frankly I consider it offensive. If you do not like how this site is structured and administered, you are free to leave at any time.

Hey guys. We just don't tolerate that kind of banter, only because it really isn't possible to distinguish whether it is out of jest or a serious insult. Would you agree? I understand that you may be used to a more lax environment and that can exist here as well, but we just don't tolerate a 'locker-room' atmosphere. Any comments which you feel might be offensive to other people at this site are probably best kept to yourselves.

Thank you.

Also, lets all not get off to a bad start. Describing your story line while being derogatory to the existing one is in my opinion unwarranted. We all envision the various themes differently, some of us picture a world not unlike the 'Heroes' TV series and some of us see it more along the lines of the 'Watchmen'.

I had seen the story line from the Watchmen point of view, where costumes had once existed but outlawed. So it made sense that those rebels who would be unwilling to discard the capes would exist. That's all. I felt the element of disguises would add to the story and allow writers to explore different areas of the comic-book world.

I find your ideas intriguing and your control of the villains and reducing everyone to one character is acceptable. However, realize that by limiting people to portraying one character you both are assuming the role of Director, so this would be a Directed story.

Directed

This is basically a free-form scenario where the creator assumes the role of director. As a director, you guide the other players through your world allowing them to develop their characters and assuring that their sub-plots do not stray too far from the path. It is your responsibility to guide the other writers in a benevolent manner, you are not a dictator but a pilot making sure that the ship stays its course. Other writers who enjoy collaborative writing will not want to participate in an scenario that stifles their creativity and so you must be attentive to your creation.

This type of scenario is not recommended to people who do not have the time to ensure that the participants do not stray too far from their set plot. It is not polite to arrive much later in the story and suddenly make your fellow writers twist their characters around a full 180 degrees. You have to at all times consider the needs of the participants and provide them with enough information to properly stay within your parameters.

The more collaboration that is allowed in this style of writing the more successful the story will be. Information is often the key for a smoothly run role-playing scenario.

Really, Scott...*shakes head*

Trust me guys, it was not meant in seriousness.

At least I hope it wasn't.

But I've known Scott for some time and I know the way he thinks (as scary as that may seem)

It was all done in jest.

I'm not offended by it in the least, but I don't think it's good to see in public either so I deleted the post

While it's true, in the past things were more lax at the old site, but other than the good natured bantering back and forth, down right insulting is frowned upon at the site.

It prevents any hard feelings from occurring and it shows others we're don't resort to, as Tiph put it, locker room antics.

As I stated, I'm not offended in the least, but I would like to not see that sort of posts in public. Send them to me in PM's. That way I can use them as blackmail later.

Don't get me wrong, I swore like a sailor in my Hockey, Soccer and Rugby days, but as I said what can be inferred from text is far different than face to face antics. It's really easy for someone to misinterpret harsh words, so its just best to avoid them. That's all.

I am though, VERY, VERY, VERY, interested in hearing an explanation for the animosity toward Heroes as it has evolved. I personally have little respect for those who are afraid to speak directly to me and prefer to use innuendos. I am a mature and level headed person, always open to criticism in an adult manner, so please if there are any problems with the way I write or my portrayal of a 'super-hero' just speak openly to me.

Thank you.

If I may put in my two cents worth, I suggest that you listen to Tiphereth. He, as well as Lac and RP, have been open, up front, honest, and very open minded since I've been here. So, please, discuss with it Tiph, he will listen to you.

PostSubject: Re: Heroes The Breakaway - OOC   Heroes The Breakaway - OOC Icon_minitimeMon Oct 12, 2009 10:17 pm

I do not believe that there is any "animosity" towards heroes, it has jumped from the other site and changed a lot since then. Some of us that played in it at the nine have a desire to play our old characters in the original storyline. The genesis of heroes was a story about a handful of heroes in a dark world of corrupt government, dangerous villains and trigger happy cops. The heroes in this world were the underdogs, not truly "super-powered" beings. Yes these individuals had powers but not godlike ones, and they had very limited resources and very few people they could turn to. It made for balanced story play and our heroes took a lot of lumps (and dished some out too). They were not invincible, not millionaires, not "connected", and they were always on the run.

This is not a critique of the existing story, it's just a matter of different tastes. It seems to me that there is plenty of room for different tastes here. There is no reason for hurt feelings or any other similar drama, not everyone will enjoy or want to join up in every story. Those that take this site too seriously should loosen up a bit, it's a game. Some directions that new (or old) members will want to go will not please everyone so it seems to be a choice between controlling everything with an iron fist or making room for things that members have requested. There is more than one style of play, more than one way for a story to grow, and plenty of room for spin-offs.

This is supposed to be "Free-Form" role playing not battle of the personalities. Am I missing something? Is this a competition? No?- Good, let's play.

Thank you Zinsk. I was not intentionally trying to force you into a corner. Understand that this is different from the Nine Worlds in the respect that it is moderated by a council and there for no one will fall victim to a personality clash with one.

Well said Sub Bear. And thank you for clarifying the history, that was very enlightening.

There is a lot of freedom here. More so than many other Story Telling Sites and that freedom exists because we believe in keeping the community small and personal. We deal with problems through rational discussion, and we do not want to stifle anyone else's creativity so long as it does not conflict with boundaries set in the story.

I am totally looking forward to submitting a character to your thread and respect your rules for the adventure. I may take one of my existing characters who seems to fit into your scenario and cross him over in a believable manner. Please do not hesitate to bring it to my attention should I start colouring outside of the lines.

I have a question though. If someone wants to use a mask to protect their identity when they are say, 'killing someone in area where there might be witnesses' allowed? People cover up their faces when they are robbing corner stores, and some criminals might even tend to wear the same type of clothes all the time, all be it not a comic book style costume, but a uniform nonetheless. Y'know like some guy who wears black leather all the time or something like that. How does these factors fit into your parameters?

Tiph I would love it if you joined up in the spin-off!, that goes for anyone else who has the interest. As far as masks and disguises go, do what you feel brother, many of our villains wear masks and 'uniforms' or outlandish ensembles. Zinsk and I were not trying to control anyone's style, we were just trying to be clear...no Sons of Krypton or Bruce Waynes allowed. 'Nuff said.

Whoa! I think I might being writing Sigma out. I don't think that Sigma can deal with the protagonists warranted by such strong meta-humans, my strongest character Wraith might be able to compete but he's entwined in the other story. He has the potential to generate tornadoes but he can only do that like once a month due the strain it puts on his body and on a good day he can support the weight of an elevator car. Also I feel that Sigma's abilities will clash with some of the ones that already exist. Similar characters just end up inadvertently competing and ruin a story if they're not enemies or have very little contact with one another.

You guys have no character write-ups, which is your prerogative, but they do help in preventing duplicates. No worries, I am enjoying the story and maybe I'll cook up another character once I see more of what your character's abilities and personalities are like.

Sigma had no effect on the story so his disappearance won't matter.

Heroes The Breakaway - OOC Jasper_flash

I was thinking of entering Jasper Flash. There is a powerful electrical mutant in the other story line, and I like playing them (I studied to be an electrician at one time).

He has the electro-magnetic stuff and I know how to use it wisely since its a power that immaturity can run rampant with. He's also quick and has the usual enhanced attributes that go along with most meta-humans. He naturally has all the usual weaknesses that go along with such a power as well.

If he doesn't fit into the scenario, the no worries, I can wait and think up something else.

I hope tossing in O'Mally is alright. I needed a 'floating sub-character' to help introduce Jasper. He is of course completely under control of the Director(s). I have never subscribed to any sub-character having the same rights as a major one. They are completely at the mercy of the story and since this seems to be more a Directed story I understand completely that it is not my say what happens to sub-characters nor should I make a habit of introducing them. The pub scene just seemed an appropriate way to bring in Jasper and I needed a setting.

I like Jasper, keep it up Smile

Just a quick bio on Bug so everyone has the scoop.

Bug is an alien, not a Meta-Human. He was a Police Officer on his home planet and is marooned on Earth after chasing the planet's most wanted on a one way trip to bring him to justice. He crashed and over the next couple months his body changed. He became super strong and his skin hardened. At very close inspection his skin looks scaly and reptilian.

He meet John by accident shortly after his crash. He had broken into John's shop and was rummaging for food when John found him and feeling some sympathy for a person who looked so scared and out of this world allowed Bug to stay in the shop. As the month's went by and the relationship grew John told Bug about all the Meta humans and revealed his own powers and abilities. The Rigg's act only solidified their relationship and though Bug left John's shop to protect his friend they saw each other almost daily as Bug would sneak back and visit his first Earthling friend.

Stats.

Name: Unknown
Alias: Bug
Height: 4' 10"
Weight: Unknown
Eyes: Soft pink color that pulse with his heartbeat. They intensify to red if he gets angry.
Abilities: Nearly impenetrable skin and extreme strength. His hair swirls around like dreadlocks however at close inspection they are solid strands and capable of grabbing things as well as flailing opponents. His hair looks like dozens of large, antenna.
Disposition: Bug is rare to talk, speaking mostly with non-verbal gestures.

Thanks for the info on Bug... that's very helpful.

Yeah, Jasper's slowly forming into a solid character. The flow is smooth and I think I've somewhat gotten the hang of the style (or rather writing idiosyncrasies Smile ) of the story. It's been pretty fun so far. I really like, what I can only describe as a classic Comic Book style, creating vivid encapsulated scenes.

Cool Tip Smile

Just a small thing that bugged me, lead isn't magnetic Wink

I think it's something we are all willing to overlook, after all Magneto seemed to be able to manipulate the electro magnetic field around all metal, so ... yeah.

I am just busting your chops a little, I do seriously like the character Smile

Damn! I totally overlooked that.

My character Wraith is effected by magnetism so I researched this a while back to find out specifically why platinum wasn't magnetic. While looking into, however, I did find that all metals whether they have magnetic properties or not can hold a magnetic field. I think Magneto 'effects' all metals because of that scientific fact.

Not trying to dig myself out of HUGE over sight, since Jasper really wasn't concentrating on maintaining a magnetic attraction after he fused the gun. A big error I'll have to remedy is the attraction of bullets... the magnetic field would still repel.

Also not all bullets are completely made of lead. Many use a copper and lead combo.

This is a quote from some gun guru:
They are usually made of steel with a copper jacket. They haven't been made of lead for decades. The bullet for an AK-47 is a 7.62 x 39 mm. It is also steel covered in copper.

I honestly had no idea, I always subscribed to that saying, "Eat hot lead!" Apparently it's not so accurate anymore. I'll keep a better eyes on what's magnetic or not, since a non-magnetic metal while still susceptible to a 'magnetic field' would require a stronger output of power.
