Ch 19: Fortress Heartlund Ceribanner

Ceridwyn smiled as Rayann spoke and she stepped up beside her friend. The two had known each other long enough and worked side by side in so many situations that casting together was becoming second nature. Though they did not share a bond or a connection they did understand the movements and the techniques the other used, and as such they were learning to weave powerful magic together. Ceridwyn reached into her robes and removed the reagents the three of them had mixed. She carefully divided the materials in and put half into a velvet bag. She turned and handed the bag to Pela, “Hold this tight, the materials are bonded and will work only with the sibling half, if that gets lost we will have to start over.”

She saw in Pela’s eyes the understanding of how serious the responsibility of holding the unused components was and nodded with a smile. Turning to Rayann she spoke, “First we need to cast around the ice to preserve it.”

She hissed words of magic and could feel Rayann pulling power to herself as well. They moved in unison and a burst of light erupted from their hands engulfing the ice and pulsing with power that insulated the cold and bathed the area in a shimmering golden-blue light. It was a relatively simple spell but one that was effective in protecting the portal. Ceridwyn turned and looked at Pela, “The idea of building this connection out of ice is two-fold, first it allowed you to work with us and give us to opportunity to learn from each other. Secondly, we can destroy it quickly should the enemy breach the walls and attempt to use it. Later I will teach you the counter spell to the barrier we just created so you can obliterate it should Rayann and I not be able to.”

She looked at Rayann and smiled softly as she held up the reagents. They each took half of what Ceridwyn had kept and went to either side of the portal, spreading the materials in an even circle around the base of each curving spire. Moving back in front of the arching iceway Ceridwyn looked at Rayann who nodded that she was ready. Again, together they began to chant and weave the magic that flowed around them. The arcane power pulsed and caused the hairs on the backs of the observers necks to stand on end, as if a massive electric current was flowing and lightning was about to strike the area. The spidery words of magic hissed through the air and the components began to sizzle like fireflies. Slowly streaks of light erupted from the reagents and followed the archway up and over. The sparkling beams collided with one another as they reached the open gap between the ice and rained down in the circular opening. At the same time a beam of light erupted across the bottom and began to grow upwards as the magic pulsed through the air. The streaks of raining light met with the rising beam and began to weave together like a tapestry. Swirls of purple and green, gold and blue, red and orange, began to dart and flash in an out of existence. The ice seemed to illuminate from within and pulse with a strange power. Ceridwyn and Rayann finished and took in deep breaths as their bodies released from the flow of magic. Ceridwyn placed her hand on Rayann’s shoulder and whispered sarcastically, “Thank the gods for this gift.”

As Rayann looked over at her and chuckled Ceridwyn winked and stood up, looking over at one of the guards who was holding the crowd back, “See to it that no one comes close to the portal. It is not operational until we complete the sibling portal on the other end, if anyone attempts to use it gods knows where they might end up.”

The guard nodded and barked orders for the men to maintain the perimeter they had created to keep the crowd back and Ceridwyn turned to Rayann and Pela, “Well, that was the easy part, now we travel with the Prince to Silvanost to see if they will let us build a portal on the other side.”

Ch 19: Fortress Heartlund Mythban2

Myth took a tour of the battlements in order to clear his head after he finished his conversation with Sir Ordin. A talk with the young Sir Hector while prudent was not something Myth was keen on doing. However the leader in him made the reasons he should all the more clear. He sighed watching the assemblage of knights maneuvering into positions. What defenses Heartlund Keep was lacking would quickly be dealt with as the Solomnic reinforcements moved in.

Myth could feel eyes upon him as he walked among the knights that had already made there way into the keep. They ranged from curiosity and interest all the way to distrust and in a few minor cases dislike. Word would spread like wild fire that the fabled assassin commander was walking among them. Myth wondered if the knight commander's orders would spread equally as fast. It was a matter best put to the side since there were bigger things for Myth to ponder than the way people would receive him.

Myth lost himself in his thoughts try to decide the best route for making his case for aid. Try as they might the counsel was running out of excuses to not get involved in the outside world's affairs. Kali's attack upon the gates of Sylvanost had shattered the glass dome that they had been hiding under for years. Myth was roused from his thoughts quite suddenly when he heard someone clear their throat. Myth's eyes came into focus and he found himself standing before a group of knights. A quick glance showed a layout of the keep spread across the table and Myth knew these men were planning the defenses.

Glancing at the knights themselves Myth took notice of one avidly avoiding his eyes. Myth wanted to sigh realizing it was Sir Hector and looked a moment to the heavens cursing their sense of humor. The knight raised an eyebrow and repeated his question "Is there something I could help you with good sir?"

Myth offered a slight nod "Indeed... I wish to borrow a moment of Sir Hector's time."

The knight looked at Myth for a moment before looking to Sir Hector who didn't acknowledge that his name was spoken. The knight looked back at Myth and shook his head "It would appear that Sir Hector is busy at the moment."

Myth's smile did not waver and the tone of his voice was calm "Very well then... if he is unable not make the time to talk to with me because of his duties I will talk to Sir Ordin about freeing up some of his time to do so."

Myth said nothing more on the matter before bowing and stepping away to continue upon his walk.

Ch 19: Fortress Heartlund Ladyrose2

Rose had Larrisa with her as she took the time to meet with the knight captains that would be under her command. She had a process that she would normally follow to gauge the potential knights but the circumstances forced her to take a more direct less subtle approach. There were several members of the command hain to meet with today and she wished to be thorough.

For the most part the men she would be leading were a good lot. A favorable prospect or two and several questionable. Overall however she found their attitudes and outlooks favorable. How they would handle under pressure was another matter entirely but she had high hopes. Rose busied herself in between meets reading the notes Larrisa was compiling for her.

Ch 19: Fortress Heartlund SirOrdin

Myth turned and saw Sir Ordin standing at the entry way. He looked at Myth with a gaze that showed he had overheard everything and his face turned to that of absolute authority when he looked over Myth’s shoulder to Sir Hector.

The four men snapped to attention and Sir Hector spoke to Myth despite his eyes remaining locked on Hectors, “That won’t be necessary Prince Myth’alas, I am afraid that Sir Hector won’t have a lot of free time as he will be spending a good majority of his time here at Heartlund Keep working in the livery shoveling horse shite.”

He glanced to Myth and continued, “I want to personally apologize on behalf of my subordinate, and I also want to offer my sincerest thanks for doing as I requested of you. I know that it was out of the ordinary as well as unorthodox but it was my hope that in being here and working together we could start on a level playing field. Apparently I was wrong in assuming that my men were capable of such a thing,” his gaze went from Myth’alas’ to Sir Hectors, “Even after they were instructed to let it go only 30 minutes ago.”

Hector’s voice broke the silence at the other end of the room but was quickly squashed by the booming voice of Sir Ordin, “Sir Ordin I…,”

“YOU SHUT YOUR MOUTH SOLDIER!”

Myth saw Sir Ordin’s hand come up and point directly at Sir Hector, “You were given a direct order to let the past go and to work in the present. We have a job to do and by the gods we are going to get it DONE. I humbly asked the Prince to make amends with you, something that was above my station as well as unnecessary for him to humble himself to but for the sake of our commitment to be here I stepped over that line. The Prince was good enough to submit to my request, which I might remind you he did NOT have to do, he is royalty, and even though he is not of a human line of king’s he is the future Speaker of the Stars. Your Grandfather died at the movement of his blade, and for that we are all filled with a sense of obligation to avenge his death. But if a man is repentant in his heart and proven pure in his motives is he not worthy of a second chance? We are soldiers, we kill, it’s our job to carry out our missions to the letter, and though we were on opposite sides that is all that happened in the end.”

“Sir I…,” Ordin’s voice rose once again and boomed across the room, “You have NOT been given permission to speak, you are lucky all I am doing it giving you livery duty, I have a good mind to bust you all the way to squire and make you shine armor for the next ten years so you can be reminded of what true humility is. Your honor is your life Sir Hector, that is our code and our oath, and your behavior was anything but honorable just now, not to mention the complete disregard for a direct order. I want the four of you out of my sight you are no longer on the defensive planning team, you will be replaced by morning. Now get out of my sight, all of you.”

The four men shuffled out of the room quickly, moving the second they had permission. As they disappeared down the hall Sir Ordin turned again to Myth’alas, “I assure you that you won’t have anymore chilly experiences from them, and if you do let me know, I will see to it that they are handled according to the code of the Knights of Solamnia.”

He extended his hand and as Myth shook it Ordin smiled with a nod, “Good luck in your journey to your people Prince, I will pray Paladine grants you favor as well as open ears for your kin.”

Ch 19: Fortress Heartlund Mythban2

Myth could see the anger deep in Sir Ordin's eyes and could sense the intensity when the man spoke to his subordinate. It was a verbal lashing the man would not soon forget and it seemed to only worsen his position every time he tried to speak. Sir Ordin took his command seriously as Myth would have expected from a man of his character, It was also clear he held the matters of honor and the knight's oath in very high regard. He had taken enough measure of this man in the past hours to know he would be trust worthy beyond reproach.

As the knights filed out of the room Myth shook his head slightly before bringing his face to meet Sir Ordin's. Myth took the man's hand and gave it a good shake. "Indeed it will take some effort but I am confident I can overcome the obstacles before me." Myth release d Ordin's hand and moved past him to the door stopping his face clearly lost in a moment of thought as he looked back to Sir Ordin.

"I would ask of you a small favor but whether you act upon it or not is entirely at your discretion. I would ask that you show Sir Hector a degree of leniency. While his actions were disrespectful I to must admit to some error in this matter. I perhaps should have given him more time in which to digest your orders on the matter. Personal loss is hard on even the most hardened soldier. I can not say I would have acted any differently if I were in his place."

Myth simply smiled and nodded his head "Good Day Sir Ordin."

Slipping out the elven prince quietly slipped through the halls of Heartlund like a ghost upon the wind. He had to gather a few things for his trip as well as change before he could meet his wife and friends at the portal to travel to Silvanost." He needed little time to prepare and would emerge out into the courtyard in half a candlemark.

Ch 19: Fortress Heartlund SirOrdin

Sir Ordin nodded gently as Myth made his request and he responded, “I will do as you have asked Prince, though his insubordination will be addressed I will show some leniency in so much as I too understand the loss of a family member on the field. Good day to you as well Prince Myth’alas, safe travels and good luck.”

He turned as the Prince left and walked over to the map his men had been looking at. He noted the markings and the strategies written on it and shook his head softly as he saw what they had written. He reached down and rubbed his finger on the drawn out towers stopping over the tower of shadow flame and then looked up slowly towards the door where the Prince had just exited, he whispered with sadness in his voice, “It seems you too know the pain of loss on the battlefield Prince, but not by the hand of death or the Abyss.”

He rolled the map up and took it in his hand as he made his way to Commander Roses quarters. The two guards snapped to attention at his rank but of course gently moved to block the door. Sir Ordin stopped knowing that rank meant little when it came to guarding the Commander of the Keep and he nodded respectfully to the two men, “I have come to see Commander Rose please.”

He caught movement and turned, seeing Larissa emerge from the shadows beside the room. There was something about this one, he was intrigued to say the least and he nodded to her as well. He knew who she was, in the few hours he had been here it was obvious that this one was the Commanders personal aid and the insignia on her lapel confirmed that to anyone who took notice, however there was something else, a raw beauty and elegance that spoke of Elf, yet his observations had not confirmed this. Perhaps half-elven, the rounded ears looked too human however, almost unnaturally human. His eyes scanned her face and he spoke, “You will have to pardon me, I am not great with names and we have not really been formally introduced, I am Sir Ordin.” He knew it was improper for a man to offer a hand first so he gave a respectful nod, “Is Commander Rose available? I have something I would like to discuss with her sooner than later.”

Larissa would see the large map in his hand, it was the same map that many had been using when discussing defense strategies. He watched her and waited her response with patience.

Ch 19: Fortress Heartlund Ceribanner

As Myth was making his way towards the courtyard Ceridwyn met him and nodded softly, and gave a slight bow as well, again, something that Myth had not even seen her do with his own Father the Speaker of the Stars, “My Prince, we have the portal constructed in the courtyard. There are a dozen guards keeping watch over it and they have been given specific instructions as to what will happen when the portal is connected on the other side. We will have to travel by other means however as the portal is merely constructed and not connected to anything at the moment, if we stepped into it we would be pulled to gods knows where. We had planned on leaving from the courtyard but the portals construction has caused quite a bit of buzz and onlookers. Rayann and I feel it would be best to cast our transportation spell away from the crowds so we can concentrate better.”

She looked at Myth and saw the deep thought reflected in his eyes. She reached and took his hands gently and got his full attention. As he looked at her she smiled softly, “I will aid you with all I have my Prince, You do not carry this burden alone, though you are the catalyst that can fuse a cooperation between our people and those of your wife know that I will do everything in my power to assist you, please don’t hesitate to ask what you will of me to get this difficult mission accomplished.”

She smiled a soft smile that he rarely saw, it was one of compassion and understanding, but at the same time submission to the authority he had as Prince. She stepped back once again and folded her hands into her robes formally and bowed her head a moment before looking back into his emerald green eyes, “By your will I submit my services to you my Prince.”

A lot had changed in Ceridwyn in the past year. She had never held the leadership of the Elves in much regard, her upbringing as a poor weaver, an outcast of the Elven society among those on the bottom rung of the ladder had given her a very jaded outlook towards those who ruled. In Myth’alas however she had finally seen true nobility, the face of bravery and the promise that the future of her people and kin might again bask in the light of their heritage. She looked up at Myth and smiled as she motioned in the direction she intended to take him so they could travel to Silvanost, “This way my Prince.”

Ch 19: Fortress Heartlund RayannRed

Ch 19: Fortress Heartlund Mage2

Myth would hear the voice of his wife talking to someone when he approached with Ceridwyn the building Pela had been given as her quarters.

”It’s different than any place else I’ve ever been. Words simply can’t describe it, Pela. You’ll have to wait and see. And trust me…it will be well worth the wait.”

Rayann turned when she heard the door open and Myth’s massive frame block out most of the sunlight as he stepped into the place on Ceri’s heels. Rayann’s face broke into a bright smile and she walked over to greet her husband with a gentle touch to his hand. Gesturing for him to come further inside, he could see they had cleared out the center of the room to make way for the transportation spell they would need to get them all to Silvanost.

”Pela had the suggestion of using her quarters for the privacy we need. Ceri and I thought it was the best option we had now that the place is literally crawling alive with soldiers of every shape and size.”

When Myth looked to Pela the girls swallowed hard and suddenly felt like a dwarf caught in the sight of a dragon but the smile and nod Myth gave her made her feel better. Looking to Rayann then to Ceri, Pela took a deep breath and let it out slowly.

”Well…..I suppose time is wasting. Might I be so bold as to suggest we get this started so we can have it behind us?”

Rayann nodded in agreement and looked to Ceri lifing her brows in question. When the Elfess gave a confident nod, all three pairs of eyes turned to Myth. When the Prince nodded as well, the three magi took their appropriate places and began to concentrate on the spell needed to help transport them all to Silvanost.

It was make or break time and they all knew it. Much was riding on the Elven Nation but they all knew no matter what the decision was from Silvanost, they would return to Heartlund and stand to fight with the brave men and women who were the Solamnic Knights.

Ch 19: Fortress Heartlund Ceribanner

Ceridwyn could hear the two talking as they approached, and by the slight twitch she saw from Myth’alas’ ears she knew he was listening as well. She entered the room in front of the Prince and stepped to the side, watching the exchange of love between Rayann and Myth’alas. She turned and looked at Pela with a soft smile and a wink. She saw the girls uncomfortable but curious glance as the husband and wife kissed.

As Rayann spoke to Myth’alas and mentioned Pela she watched as the girl became immediately uncomfortable at the Prince’s glance. She felt for Pela, but then saw as Myth let her know non-verbally that she had done well that the young girls confidence rose. She smiled softly as Pela spoke and she followed suit as the group took up positions. She spoke to Pela’s mind as the girl flexed her hands nervously, ~ “Ease your mind Pela, allow the magic to flow through you and do not fight it. You will feel your body sapped of strength but the spell is not strong enough to harm you.” ~

Pela looked over at her and gave a small smile and Ceridwyn spoke to her mind again, ~ “One thing I can guarantee, Rayann was right, you are going to love Silvanost, it is the most beautiful place on all of Krynn.” ~

She winked as only Ceridwyn can and she turned to look at Rayann with a glance of preparedness. Rayann smiled and Ceridwyn began the incantation. The other two wizards joined her and magic immediately filled the room. Ceridwyn could feel the incredible amount of power coming from Pela and she was deeply impressed by the young girl’s natural ability to channel the river of magic that surrounded Krynn. Not since casting with Kali had she felt such raw talent for the arcane. She pressed the magic through herself and felt Pela and Rayann do the same. Myth was instantly surrounded by flashing golden light, and then the whole group was engulfed in a white explosion of power as the room flashed, and was instantly empty.

The four of them appeared in Ceridwyn’s quarters. As she opened her eyes and looked the three of others steadied themselves. She smiled softly and exhaled deeply before speaking, “One just never gets used to traveling like that.”

She smoothed out her robes and turned to look at the Prince, “We will get dressed in our formal robes as you speak to your Father, send us a missive when the Council of Elders is assembled.”

He nodded and Ceridwyn turned to look at Pela, “As for you pretty little Miss, let’s see if we can find you something more elegant to show off that beautiful face of yours.” She smiled and walked towards her dressing chamber knowing that Rayann and Pela would follow.

Ch 19: Fortress Heartlund RayannRed

Ch 19: Fortress Heartlund Mage2

It was odd, really. Pela was always nervous when casting with Rayann and Ceridwyn where she never had been nervous with Bad Rock. Of course Bad Rock had been with her all her life where she was still relatively new to the two women. But when the time came to cast it was as though she became one with the magic that surrounded her. Like she had never been nervous a few moments before casting. As Ceridwyn began the incantation that would transport the four bodies to the home of the Elves, Pela let the magic flow through her like a water reed allows the river to flow through it. The strange sensation she got in the pit of her stomach sometimes robbed her of her breath but it wasn’t painful by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, it was quite the opposite. If she were a bit older and worldlier she would call it intimate.

The warmth that surrounded her as the golden light appeared reminded her of what it was like to be with Bad Rock. While he was never an overly affectionate creature he did have a way about him that let her know he cared for her in his own way. That security blanket feeling.

When they opened their eyes, Pela felt herself sway slightly as her eyes refocused in on the world around her. There was a moment of disappointment when she realized she was in someone’s actual home instead of in the middle of the Elven Nation as she had thought they would be. She pushed that disappointment down and glanced around as she took in the way an Elf lived in the homes they constructed for themselves. Why she thought it would be far different than anything she’d seen she didn’t know why but as she glanced around Ceri’s home, she didn’t think it was THAT different.

Of course Pela had no idea the real difference was when she stepped outside the door and found herself immersed in nature.

Like her other two counterparts, Rayann steadied herself then glanced at Myth. She could see the unease make slight wrinkles on his brow but she also knew he wouldn’t dodge this meeting for all the gold anyone could throw at him either. Her husband had come a long way from when she first met him on that fateful journey she set out on what seemed like a lifetime ago now. Walking over to him she placed her hand over his and squeezed gently giving him a warm smile.

”My strength is yours, Mel’amin. I will see you soon. And as much as it pains me, I will hold off going to Shaer until we have met with the counsel. Once I get him in my arms again I w ill not want to let him down. Not to mention I think your mother would not appreciate me just showing up unannounced and so suddenly.”

Giving her husband another loving smile she nodded then turned to see Ceri and Pela looking for that perfect, formal attire that would bring the girls quickly budding womanhood out into full bloom. Taking a deep breath, Rayann threw herself into the daunting task as well to keep her mind occupied.

Ch 19: Fortress Heartlund Ceribanner

As Rayann was talking to Myth’alas Ceridwyn grabbed Pela’s hand and began walking towards her dressing room. Pela resisted slightly at first and Ceridwyn turned to look at her with a soft smile, “I understand your hesitation Pela, but I assure you I can be trusted. I pray in time we can be friends.”
She tugged gently and Pela followed. As they walked into Ceridwyn’s dressing room a breathtaking view overcame her. The massive windows that overlooked the emerald forest were beyond verbal explanation. A massive waterfall that seemed to stretch into clouds roared down only half a kilometer from her home. The whole roomed seemed to glow yet no light source was visible. Two of the most intricately carved doors that seemed more like living things than doors were opened to her bed chamber. A bed of natural leaves and soft mossy branches was in the center of the room and appeared to grow right from the floor. The leaves of the bed were opened like a flower, warm and inviting to come lay within. They swayed and moved gently as if a breeze was pushing through the room and the smell of lilac and mint filled the whole area.

Ceridwyn walked over to a large set of double doors and opened them one at a time. A glowing light from within illuminated the whole closet and spilled out like blue liquid into the room. Ceridwyn walked into the huge closet and began shuffling through dresses. She selected a gorgeous lacy blue dress, streaked with silver thread that was woven into the fabric and covered in ornate shimmering beadwork that glistened like pearls. She walked over and began to hold it up when Pela withdrew slightly looking at her suspiciously. Ceridwyn stopped and nodded, “Very well Pela, I won’t force anything on you.” She smiled sadly and laid the dress out on a chair and stepped back into the closet to keep searching. She listened and there was silence in the room for a moment, but then she heard Pela’s small feet move and she chanced a subtle glance, Pela was looking at the dress with interest and seemed captivated by the ornate thread and beadwork. Just as she was losing herself in the garment Ceridwyn appeared again, standing a safe distance away she spoke, “I never wore it, it was supposed to be for my engagement, my parents didn’t approve because he was human, but I was going to go through with it. He…,” she paused and looked at Pela sadly, “…he was murdered, I am not sure if you know that.” She sighed and stepped over to Pela, placing a pair of silk shoes with the same intricate beadwork and thread on the floor beside her feet, “Looks like those are the right size.” She stood up and took a half step back with a smile. “You should try those on, see if they fit.”

Pela smiled shyly and Ceridwyn motioned to the dressing screen off to the side. The framework was carved in the shape of intertwined Ivy and roses, and it was against the only wall in the room without windows. She watched the young girl disappear behind the screen and turned just as Rayann walked into the room. She smiled at her dearest friend and spoke to her mind, ”~ Perhaps one day she will trust me.~”

Ch 19: Fortress Heartlund RayannRed

Ch 19: Fortress Heartlund Mage2

Pela was, in a word, awestruck with what she saw when Ceridwyn led her into her room. Never had the young woman seen anything quite like what she was seeing from the massive windows that made up most of the bed chamber. There was so much to see, Pela wasn’t sure what she should observe first. Her eyes darted from the scenery just beyond the windows to the natural leaf bed to the intricate and ornate doors that Ceridwyn opened to reveal clothing within. To say the least she was overwhelmed and most of her reaction to things was simply from that more than she was untrusting of the others. While she was still getting used to contact from others and learning to allow them to get close to her, she was still struggling with wrapping her mind around letting someone know you so well that it could eventually be used against you if they so chose to do so. It was a mindset she had spent 14 years developing and it would take more than a few weeks to change it. If ever completely.

As Ceridwyn dug through the clothes and brought out the dress, Pela looked at the dress and the material and detail to it knowing it was not your usual daily wear dress. While Pela knew the reason they were here was important, she didn’t feel as though she should wear such a beautiful piece of clothing. After all, she was nothing but a wayward sorceress who really had no station nor did she have any privilege for such finery. Still, the moment she pulled back from Ceridwyn she saw the look in the mage’s eyes and wanted to somehow apologize for her initial reaction but wasn’t sure how.

When Ceridwyn turned to search for more dresses, Pela let her eyes drift to the dress once more and actually walked over to let her hand reach out so her fingers could touch the material. What she thought would be a stiff and uncomfortable piece of cloth was in fact soft and inviting. The more she took the dress in the more she thought it would be the perfect piece of clothing for her. When she turned to see Ceridwyn looking at her and the dress then explain the origin of the dress, Pela saw the sadness in Ceri’s eyes and the heartbreak in the Elfess’ voice. Once again Pela felt that strange emotion that had been surfacing more and more lately and she felt a lump form in her throat much like it did when Bad Rock died. Blinking back moisture that threatened to form in her eyes, Pela nodded softly and gently, almost lovingly picked up the dress to go try it on.

Rayann walked into Ceri’s bed chamber just as she saw Pela disappear behind the privacy screen to try on a dress Ceri had picked out. Right away Rayann could feel the many emotions from both women swirling about the room and she took a deep breath to allow the barriers to rise and protect her from the worst of them. Obviously there was something exchanged between the two of them that allowed for some breakthrough. When Ceri’s missive reached Rayann she blinked and looked at her friend then looked towards the screen then back to Ceri.

~She will, Ceri. In fact, I believe there was some breaching of the gap that just occurred. I felt something from her I haven’t felt before, understanding on an emotional level. Perhaps this is the breakthrough we’ve been looking for. We’ll have to wait and see. But I think……~

Rayann’s mental words were cut short when she caught movement from where Pela had disappeared and when the young woman stepped from behind the screen wearing the dress Ceri had picked out, Rayann felt her own breath catch in her throat. The dress fit Pela as though it had been tailor made for the young woman. And it was clear Pela was no longer a girl. Her transformation into womanhood was as clear as the nose on any ones face by looking at her now.

Rayann knew she was staring and that her mouth was slightly agape when she quickly closed her mouth and smiled then looked over at Ceri to see that same shocked look on her friends face but it was also laced with sadness. Rayann didn’t know the story of the dress but it was obvious it held a significant meaning to her friend and for Pela to be wearing it meant a great deal of just what Ceri thought of the woman. Taking Ceriu’s hand in her own, Rayann smiled lovingly at her friend and nodded.

”You couldn’t have chosen a more fitting dress for her, Ceri.”

Turning to look at Pela, Rayann smiled brightly.

”Pela, you look…..stunning. Absolutely, radiantly, beautiful. I feel the male population will have trouble keeping their minds focused on anything but you.”

When Pela emerged from behind the screen and was greeted with silence, she was about to turn and take the dress off when she noticed the look in Ceri’s eyes and on Rayann’s face. She became extremely self conscious and began to fidget nervously. When Rayann finally spoke up Pela felt her cheeks grow warm. She gave a shy smile to both women then looked t Ceri.

”If the offer still stand to wear the dress, I would be honored, Ceridwyn. And thank you for trusting me with such a beautiful, special dress. I will take very special care of it.”

Ch 19: Fortress Heartlund Ceribanner

Ceridwyn listened as Rayann spoke and nodded as she spoke to her friends mind, ~ Time will tell Rayann, I agree that there has been change in her, but one can only ponder how her upbringing will affect the rest of her life, for good or for bad. I am glad that she is now in your charge and protection. She has a raw talent for the arcane that I have never felt in a human, it is not surprising she is so lethal at such a young age. Though Bad Rock wasn’t evil, per-say, clearly he saw the advantage of encouraging her more destructive magics. ~

As Rayann was speaking and then went silent Ceridwyn turned and looked. Like her friend she was taken back at how beautiful Pela looked. As the young girl fidgeted and then became more comfortable in the situation Ceridwyn could not help but feel her eyes begin to well up. As Pela spoke to her she nodded and responded, “It would be more an honor to let you have the dress little one, its purpose in my life has long expired. The dress is several hundred years old but doesn’t look a day out of style on you.”

She smiled and turned around, grabbing another garment off the chair beside the entry to the closet. Picking it up she walked over to Pela and handed the heavy silken garment to the girl, “Though that dress is exquisite on you it isn’t appropriate for the meeting, but it will be perfect for the party Silvanost is sure to be having tonight to celebrate the return of their Prince and his wife. For the meeting you will need something more fitting of your station. “As Pela took the robes she would notice they smelled just like Rayann’s and Ceridwyn’s. The spices and reagents of magic wafted with each movement of the fabric and Ceridwyn smiled as she spoke again, “These were my acolyte robes, you will notice they are slightly grey because as a young wizard in training you are not aligned with a moon. We can alter their color if you would prefer, say, a light blue, but I think it would be fitting for a talented young Sorceress as yourself to have proper garments.”

She inhaled softly as Pela took the robes and disappeared enthusiastically behind the screen. As she turned and saw Rayann’s face she waved her hand and spoke to her friends mind, ~ “Stop it, I am not placating her with gifts or trying to get on her good side, why should all these things go to waste hanging in a closet when they can be on someone who will use them, the poor girl has one dress and the couple outfits the Knights were able to scrape together. Besides, playing dress up is fun.” ~ She winked slyly at her friend and then heard movement as Pela began to emerge from the screen, Ceridwyn turned to see what the girl looked like in proper wizard’s robes.

Ch 19: Fortress Heartlund Pela

Ch 19: Fortress Heartlund RayannRed

Pela accepted the robe more easily that she accepted the dress and was grateful for Ceridwyn’s help in getting her attire straightened out. As Ceridwyn told her about the color of the robe Pela shook her head as her fingers caressed the soft material.

”Gray is the appropriate color. As you stated, I am not affiliated with any moon so until the decision is made, it is best to let others know I have no affiliation yet. Thank you again for the thoughtfulness of the dress and robes. I only hope I will do them both honor while wearing them.”

Rayann watched the exchange between he Elfess and the young woman who literally blossomed right before their eyes and she felt a grin tug at the corners of her mouth. Ceridwyn was taking the young woman more under her wings that perhaps Ceri even realized but knowing her friend the way she did, Rayann had an idea Ceri knew exactly what she was doing.

Rayann couldn’t help but chuckle at Ceri as she silently admonished her lightly for what Ceri thought Rayann might have been thinking. Rayann lifted her hands in mock surrender and shook her head as she spoke to her dear friend again.

~I never said a word. Besides, There’s no argument I could win when it came to trying to convince you otherwise. But I can’t help but wonder….are you trying to convince me…or you what you aren’t doing?~

Rayann laughed softly then and shook her head.

”Gray is fine, Pela. It’s a perfectly neutral color and it matches the dress beautifully. Now it all becomes a waiting game. When we are summoned, we’ll have to depart quickly so it’s best to be ready at a moment’s notice for that’s all we’ll get. In the meantime, Ceri has a lovely view of the forest from her home and we can enjoy the serenity it offers. We’ll need it before we face the Counsel of Elders.”

Pela knew she was getting ready to get a lesson in diplomacy, something she was very lacking, and while she was looking forward to the lesson, she was dreading the wait until that moment arrived. But, in an effort to show her mentors she was trying to understand how things worked, she clamped down on her usual eye rolled response and nodded instead.

”I wonder what they are doing in Heartlund? There is so many soldiers there now it is almost impossible to move without bumping into one of them….or three.”

Ch 19: Fortress Heartlund Ceribanner

Ceridwyn looked at Rayann sternly and then almost immediately broke into quiet laughter as a result of her words. ~ “The truth is dearest friend, I am constantly trying to convince myself I am making the right choices, no matter what I am doing.” ~

She walked over and waved her hand near the hearth, the tea pot hanging over the grate moved inwards and a fire started instantly, seemingly from nothing. Ceridwyn turned to Rayann and spoke, “I don’t suppose I need to ask you if you would like some honey-mint tea?”

Rayann nodded with a smile and Ceridwyn called out, “Pela dear, would you like some tea?” Pela responded from behind the screen and Ceridwyn went to the cupboard and produced three ornate porcelain cups and sprinkled the mixture into the bottom of each as the water was being prepared. She motioned for Rayann to sit and they watched as Pela stepped out from behind the dressing screen. The robes fell perfectly and Ceridwyn brought her hand to her chest and inhaled deeply with a smile, then covered her mouth and turned to look at Rayann, “She looks absolutely like a wizard does she not?!”

Rayann nodded in affirmation and Ceridwyn stood, walking over to Pela and walking around her slowly in a circle, smoothing little bits of the robe here and there. As Pela said gray was fine Ceridwyn nodded and spoke, “Keep in mind Pela, it is not a requirement to take the Trials, being a Sorceress is perfectly acceptable if that is the path you choose. Though there are plenty of snobby magic users out there that will look down on you if you don’t pursue the Art with full dedication know that your path is yours and yours alone, though something tells me that giving in to what others think is not something you tend to do.”

She winked and smiled as she walked over to the now winging kettle and waved her hand over the handle. The kettle unhooked itself from the fire hanger and hovered over the cups, pouring three perfect amounts of water. She then picked up two cups and handed one to each of her guests, and then the third for herself. She held her cup up and looked at Rayann and Pela, “May our time in Silvanost be a success.”

Ch 19: Fortress Heartlund Pela

Ch 19: Fortress Heartlund RayannRed

Pela shrugged her shoulders slightly at what Ceridwyn about other magic users looking down on her.

”I have seen people look like they are better than me before. They are not, though. They have to put their clothes on the same way as the next person regardless of how much money or how well versed in magic wielding they are. The only thing that separates us all are titles. If we did not have titles, we would all be the same. And no, I do not give in to what others think of me. I would rather prove to them in some way I am no less than they are when all other things are stripped from them.”

She saw the look on Ceri and Rayann’s faces and held her hands up in mock surrender.

”I shall refrain from doing that while we are here in Ceridwyn and Prince Myth’Alas’ home. I believe that is considered bad diplomacy if I were to revert to my old ways. Not to mention rude.”

RFayann gave a visible sigh of relief then took the cup from Ceri as she handed it to her. Sipping the tea, she closed her eyes and leaned back in the chair letting out a long breath as she relaxed.

”Indeed….a success. I hope Shaer has been doing well. Of course I know he is good hands. Myth’s mother is a kind hearted and beautiful spirit and I know she would do what was right for our son. But being the mother I am, I can’t help but worry.”

Pela sipped the tea and sat back as well smoothing out the folds of the dress and robes she now wore.

”He is a calm spirit. He can adjust to almost anything. I am sure he is having no trouble here other than missing you and his father.”

Rayann blinked and looked to Pela then to Ceri then back to Pela.

”I didn’t realize you were so intuitive, Pela.”

Pela looked up from the material she was smoothing out and saw both women looking at her. Blinking, she nodded.

”I do not need to be able to read minds to know another’s spirit. It is always reflected in their eyes. It was something Bad Rock taught me early on in life. It is very difficult for one to hide their true nature when you look them directly in the eye. I am not saying it is impossible, just difficult. Even when words of honey drip from their lips, the malice in their heart will surface in their eyes.”

Again she shrugged and sipped her tea as she smoothed out the material again.

”It is what I use to gauge a person when I meet them.”

Rayann blinked again then looked to Ceri and quirked her brow as she spoke to her friends mind.

~It appears our young apprentice has some traits that has served her well so far.~

Back at Heartlund, Saul Ch 19: Fortress Heartlund Saulfa14 contimued to stare out across the former battlefield towards the towers. His mind was pondering if perhaps somewhere in the archievs of Heartlund there were maps the land before the construction of the fortress. Perhaps even drawings of the fortresses construction. Within these maps and drawings there may be a clue to a weakness.
Saul spoke softly to Tepes and the falcon immediately took flight. Saul then turned and walked quickly down the stone steps from the parapat and across the courtyard towars the tower that housed Commander Rose's office.

Ch 19: Fortress Heartlund Sirtrystan

Trystan was coming from the Livery when he spotted Saul walking along the cobblestone of the Keep’s interior. He walked over, seeing that the man was intent on getting somewhere. He stepped up beside him and spoke, “Hey there, Saul right? I am sorry, we haven’t really been formally introduced,” He stuck out his hand and continued, “Sir Trystan Celestes.”

As Saul took his hand Trystan spoke again, “I was wondering, I am in charge of the creation of our defensive perimeter and working closely with Sir Ordin to put his troops in place. I have noticed that you are quite a planner and would like to ask your assistance in coordinating the perimeter. A lot of the strategy is in place, the higher ups have been working on things all night but I sure could use a hand in deploying the orders and making sure that all is being done according to the plan.” He became slightly uncomfortable as he continued, “I um… well I know that your family was disgraced a few generations back and that you are attempting to reclaim your name, I respect that, Commander Rose told me and this might be a good opportunity to show that the sins of the father are not those of the son. What do you say Saul, care to lend more of a hand then simple scouting missions?”

Ch 19: Fortress Heartlund Ceribanner

Ceridwyn listened with great interest as Pela spoke. This was the most open and chatty that she had ever seen the young woman and to say she was intrigued was an understatement. It was always Ceridwyns way to solve the riddle, and truly that is what Pela was to her, not a mystery that needed to be solved per say, but at minimum understood. There was the part of Ceridwyn beyond the formal pleasantries and elegance of her Elven heritage that came forth from time to time, eventually she would be standing beside this young girl in a conflict and she needed to know that the girl could be trusted and would perform her duties alongside the rest of them. She never questioned Pela’s abilities as a magic user, it was obvious the girl had talent and patience to cast, and she was more fearless than any other fourteen year old she had ever met. Bad Rock had certainly instilled in her a sense of bravery that was beyond her years, and though she was young she did approach people from a fairly healthy point of view even though at arms length.

When she started talking of “knowing someone’s spirit” and being able to sum people up on first meeting Ceridwyn leaned slightly forward and returned Rayanns glance. She didn’t say a word, she merely listened and when Rayanns voice entered her mind she responded as she kept her eyes locked on Pela, ~ “Traits perhaps, talents is more like it. Discernment is a powerful ability which is often mistaken for simply being perceptive.” ~

She stood and walked over to the window, staring out into the landscape. “Tell me Pela, when you meet people and are able to sum them up, tell me what you are feeling? Do you know their thoughts? Their motives? Or is it simply that you get a sensation in your gut if they are being straight with you?”

Ch 19: Fortress Heartlund Pela

Ch 19: Fortress Heartlund RayannRed

Pela shook her head slightly.

”No. I cannot read thoughts. I read…well…them. The way a person moves speaks volumes about them. And what they are intending. Even the subtlest of moves could mean the difference between enemy or ally. When a person is filled with malice, there is a split second just before they strike you can see them change from being pleasant to sinister. Especially in their eyes. The truth will always reveal itself. It is up to me to be alert enough to be able to react in one way or another. Some are more difficult than others but I am still alive and others are not because they made the mistake of thinking I was not paying attention.”

Her brows furrowed slightly as she thought about what Ceridwyn asked her about the “gut” feeling. Chewing on her bottom lip, she finally nodded.

”I suppose it is considered a gut feeling. Bad Rock always told me those who wished to destroy me would make their move sooner or later and it was up to me rather they succeeded or not if they meant to harm me in some way or other.”

She looked from Rayann to Ceridwyn then back to Rayann.

”I know neither of you want to really hurt anyone but you will not be pushed around either. And you do not appreciate those who are stronger forcing their will on the weaker. While it is true the strong will survive, one is only weak if they let themselves be weakened. There is strength in many different things, in many different ways. You do not always need to be the strongest physical being to win a fight. All you need is knowledge. You can only gain knowledge when you study the world around you.”

She sipped her tea and looked from one to the other then set the cup in her lap.

”Why do you ask?”

Rayann listened to Pela as she talked and the older mage knew the young woman was being completely and totally honest with her and Ceridwyn. Rayann was amazed at how talkative Pela was being but she didn’t want to say anything that would cause the girl to become closed off again. She decided that being the silent observer was the best part for her to play right now.

Ch 19: Fortress Heartlund Saulfa14

Saul grasped Sir Celestes hand then stepped back and brought both his palms togethr at his chest and bowed his head. Raising his head he said quietly "It is an honor to meet you Sir Celestes." Looking the knight squarely in the eyes he added "I would be more than pleasedd and honored to assist in anyway I am able. ...... In fact I was just going to speak with Commander Rose, regarding an idea I have. But perhaps you can answer my question. ...... Are there any maps or drawings from before the fortress was constructed. Or for that matter any construction plans. ...... I was thinking that perhaps there are some under ground rivers or canals that may lead to the towers. I have it in my mind that perhaps the creators of the towers may not consider them vulnerable from underground. This may be a weakness that we could exploit."

Ch 19: Fortress Heartlund Ceribanner

Ceridwyn listened and nodded from time to time, but also furrowed her brow a bit too. There was some truth to her words, but there was also some things she did not agree with. This was not the place to discuss such things however, nor was it necessarily wrong that Pela approached life in the way she did.

“It is hard to believe that you are only fourteen Pela, your wisdom is well beyond your years, but I suppose that is a product of your upbringing, and I don’t mean that in a bad way.”

As Pela prodded as to Ceridwyns motivations in asking the questions she was asking she smiled and spoke, “I am merely doing as was done to me when I took my first steps in those very robes, determining your natural talents and abilities. Everyone, magic or not, has natural abilities, you are clearly able to make fast discernments about people, which is an incredible ability. I myself am a Scryer, which means I can see events of the past, make more careful decisions in the present and occasionally I can see what is going to transpire in the future. Our friend Rayann here is an Empath, meaning she can immediately feel the emotions of others. Kali, like yourself, is also a Discerner. This makes it possible to immediately make an assessment of another, get an insight into their motivations, allegiances, purposes, intent, etc. Over time and with the right training you will most likely be able to tell if someone is lying or being dishonest, in fact if you might already be able to get a feeling about such things.”

She sipped her tea and walked closer to Pela, “Discernment is a very powerful gift from the gods, among the most powerful of them in fact because it allows you to make determinations faster than most of us. It is also a gift easily abused and comes with a tremendous amount of responsibility. How you chose to use this gift will be entirely up to you however, and ultimately will determine your path, and your magical allegiance.”

She looked over at Rayann, her blood red robes spilling around the chair she was sitting in and pouring onto the floor. She smiled and then turned back to Pela, “Your magical allegiance is purely up to you, red white or black, in the end you will be among those of “The Art”, and will be among an elite group on Krynn. All of this of course should you choose to follow Rayann’s guidance, listen to her instructions, and ultimately take the Trials.”

Ch 19: Fortress Heartlund Sirtrystan

Trystan smiled at Saul as they exchanged pleasantries and spoke, “Please, Sit Trystan is well enough, no need to be so formal.”

He listened to Saul and rubbed his chin thoughtfully as he made his request. With a thoughtful glance he turned to the entrance of the Keep and spoke, “I am not sure what is down there for certain, but in the Keep’s vault there are many stacks of old maps and such, though I don’t know if there was a formal architectural scheme drawn up in regards to the Keep itself there might be things we can piece together. I can tell you that the only canals I know of that run underground are to the uphill side so that water can flow in. The Solamnic Knights don’t believe in surrender or retreat in a siege and I would be shocked to find underground escape routes, however you never know. Heartlund was built as a Keep and the city sprouted around it, not the other way around, so it’s planning was around those of a military compound more than a “get the Governor out” approach.”

He gestured towards the door, “Let’s go look however, I have the access key to the vault, let’s spend some time and see what we find.”

As they walked, Saul Ch 19: Fortress Heartlund -anime11 contemplated what Trystan had said. "I thank you for the oppurtunity to right precieved wrong that has beeen said was committed by s member of my family. ....... Ch 19: Fortress Heartlund Pela

Ch 19: Fortress Heartlund RayannRed

Pela understood the gravity of what Ceridwyn was telling her and she took the news to heart. She never thought about what she did as a gift from anyone and more of what Bad Rock ingrained in her as she grew up under his watchful, protective eye.

”I will use this ability wisely. As I have so far. But I do understand what you are relaying to me. It will make me more aware of the things I have learned and fine tune them even more. And yes, I know when I am being lied to. It is why I listen to what you tell me. Same with a select few others.”

Pela glanced from Ceri to Rayann then back to Ceri and nodded her head.

”I will listen to all she tells me, as well as what you tell me. Bad Rock told me I had a gift of magic and he was honest enough to tell me he could not help me learn how to hone my skills to become a powerful wizard. What I learned I learned on my own. Things happened and it took me some time to learn how to recreate them but when I did learn, I would practice over and over until I was too exhausted to do so. With each spell I learned the more sensitive I became to my surroundings. And the easier it was for me to fight as one with Bad Rock.”

She looked at both women again.

”I wonder if part of his accepting the job was because he knew I would be spending time with powerful magic users who would help me.”

Rayann looked to Ceri and smiled then looked to Pela and smiled as well.

”Bad Rock was as wise as he was strong, Pela. I’m sure his decision wasn’t driven by a heavy purse alone. It was a deciding factor, but I don’t think it was the only one.”

Elsewhere on Krynn....

Ch 19: Fortress Heartlund KellanBanner

As things in Heartlund were gearing up for whatever may be coming next, things elsewhere in Krynn were moving along as well. It had been a couple of months since Kellan had been brought to the Myst Isle after she had been mortally wounded. She and Raju, Nol’s gentle cousin, had become good friends and it was with Raju’s help Kellan was able to absorb the world of the metallic dragons. The Solamnic Knight had never known such a society existed let alone had rules it adhered to. All she had ever been taught was dragons weren’t to be trusted. They were conniving, overgrown lizards who sought only to destroy humankind.

How misguided she had been.

Kellan found the metallic dragons to be compassionate, sincere, gentle and good natured. While some of them had a bit of a high opinion of themselves, she understood why. One didn’t live thousands of years as a creation of the Gods and not get SOME sort of opinion about themselves.

She had been given free reign of the Isle, with the exception of the High Born’s castle. Of course she would never trespass on what she considered to be sacred ground. While she was curious, she never asked about the creature that ruled from behind the guarded walls. To her, if the High Born wanted to speak to her directly, he would.

Her days were filled with talking to the many dragons who lived on the peaceful isle gaining knowledge from them. They were patient with her when she asked questions and were more than happy to answer them giving great detail. They actually seemed glad that a human was taking such interest in them and wanting to somehow bridge a gap that had been created after centuries of mistrust from both sides.

Subtle changes took place in her as she spent time with the dragons and Nol in particular. Their peaceful, gentle, often playful nature allowed her to relax more than she had in years. While she still held herself to the code of her Knighthood, she began to smile and laugh more without being so stoic. Physical changes happened as well. She gave up wearing her armor and opted for more comfortable, practical clothing. Most days she wore soft leggings and tunics with soft, high boots. She even gave up cutting her hair and now it fell past her shoulders to almost the middle of her shoulder blades. And because she spent most of her time outdoors during the day, it took on an almost golden color.

Nol spent a great deal of time with the Council but when he could, he would spend time with her. Most times he would take her soaring high above the clouds in the night sky in his dragon form. He knew she was an experienced equestrian and loved to ride but he also knew it was helping her get used to riding a flying dragon. His moves grew less and less fluid and more and more evasive as though they were in some sort of invisible combat against other flying foes. And Kellan quickly adapted to the dodging, darting and outright rolling.

Kellan knew she had given her heart to the dragon and as much as her logical mind told her it was a doomed relationship for eventually she would grow old and die while Nol would live on for many, many years past her, she pushed that aside and let her heart have freedom. Her death proved to her life was too short to not take some risks. Liam had told her the last time she visited with him it was better to know what love is like than never experience it. And she was going to do just that, experience it.

As the sun was just beginning its decent marking the beginning of the afternoon on the isle, she sat at a table on the balcony of the quarters she had been given reading through several scrolls she borrowed. Her brows were furrowed as her eyes took each word in, concentrating. The warm breeze was light and tossed a few strands of her hair around from time to time but it didn’t deter her from reading what was before her. While she had relaxed in some things, she still remained as studious as ever, almost obsessively so. On occasion a shadow would pass over the paper and she would cast her gaze skyward, squinting, to see the majestic form of a dragon passing overhead.

This time was no different. As she watched the large reptilian form glide easily high overhead, she felt a smile tug at the corners of her mouth. Yes indeed, she thought, I have been given more than one gift with my gift of life. I’ve been given the chance to call these majestic creatures friend.

Ch 19: Fortress Heartlund Sirtrystan

Trystan turned and looked at Saul with a dumbfounded expression as he mentioned the sewage lines. His face broke to a smile and he could only laugh at himself as he spoke, “Well Saul, I suppose I always jut kind of figured it went… away. Good catch!”

He patted Saul on the back in a friendly manner and the two of them made their way into the lower basement of the Keep. It was much less refined than the rest of the place, clearly little attention had been given to its warmth, comfort and light, and more to being a sturdy foundation from impacts and attack. They squeezed through a passage that was so narrow Trystan had to turn sideways that finally opened to a small room where they could stand side by side. A very heavy iron banded oak door was before them and Trystan placed his torch in a holder as he removed the keys from his belt. He slipped the right key into the latch and it clicked open easily. He turned and looked at Saul with a smile and retrieved his torch, “There will be lamps inside that we will have to light, but I am not sure how well organized things are in here, it’s really a catch all for the things nobody has bother to sort out.”

He pushed the door open and they entered a room that was approximately 25 meters deep and almost twice as wide. Shelving sets lined the whole place and there was a couple chairs sitting at a small table. Trystan reached and grabbed a couple lamps, lit one and handed it to Saul after placing his torch in another holder on the wall. He lit his own lamp and then a few others that wear near the entrance. He pointed to Saul’s left, “My guess is over there someplace, that is where the oldest documents that I know of are. We should probably start there.”

The Myst Isle was as it always had been, a haven of peace and a retreat from the chaos of a world spiraling out of control. The dragon’s had purposely isolated themselves from humanity and the like, taking to minding their own affairs. It was the silvers primarily that found some delight, some would even say, obsession, in keeping tabs on what the humans were up to. There were in fact fewer silvers than any other species of metallic dragon on the Isle as most still preferred to live in disguise among the humans, Nol being no exception to that rule.

As the light of another beautiful day was beginning to fade a winged figure circled high over the city and slowly tipped its wing, dropping like a rock from the sky before tipping back up to slow the descent. The shining, shimmering scales caught the soft pinks and oranges of the sun’s final rays as a final wide sweeping arc brought Raju to the balcony of Lady Kellan’s quarters. All the balconies in the city were large enough to accommodate landing dragons, and Kellan’s was no exception. She had made some adjustments to the furnishings but still left space for incoming visitors to land since most dragon’s preferred this method of arrival as opposed to using the front doors.

Ch 19: Fortress Heartlund RajuBanner

Raju’s feet touched down gently and the instant her fourth foot hit the marble tile she shifted into her Elven form. The seemingly dozens of flowing, luminescent, pale blue fabric that made up her garment shifted and moved with the very slightest of movements, almost making it look like she was clothed in sky and clouds rather than fabric. Her hair was tucked back neatly with a braded platinum band and her white silken slippers were so clean they looked as if they had never once touch the ground. She smiled as Kellan stood and began to approach and the two embraced warmly in a hug. As Kellan stepped back she looked over Raju’s shoulder into the sky and then back to her friend who’s eyes spoke the words before her mouth could, “Nol is still in Council, but he sends his warmest thoughts and words. He thinks they will be wrapped up in a full candles burning, but asked that I come to give you company until he arrives, that is, if you are not too busy.”
