RAMBLINGS & CONCEPTS Moses_BB

Thought I would start this topic here, to provide a place where people can 'ramble' on about story ideas without having to create a separate post. Feel free to discuss ideas, or even talk about some of Bifrost Bridge's current stories.

STORY IDEA

I have often toyed with the idea of a robotic story. This is actually take from one of my novel ideas about the synthetic remnants of the Human civilization.

It is far in the future, on some distant world. A successful Human colony has lost it's battle against a lethal virus and the survivors leave behind a world of artificially intelligent robots of various forms with one directive: NEVER LEAVE THE CITIES.

A hundred years passes and finally the main computer that is the main life line that connects the various cities shuts down, isolating the five cities from one another, forcing them to create their own societies since none will defy the prime directive. NEVER LEAVE THE CITY.

Our story will begin with a movement. Some androids have began to question their origins, and there are those who still believe that above all they should strive to be more HUMAN rather than bow to the rule of the GOD-like robots who have taken control of their city. The strongest of the robots followed models of Human mythology to build their world, and now resemble Gods of old. Titanic creatures who live to rule and support the prime directive if only to maintain their authority.

It is punishable by death to leave the city but there are those that are determined to find the Humans that left them long ago. This is a journey of discovery, where machine learns what it is to be man as they embark into a new world and eventually make their way to the other robotic cities who have all developed their own unique societies.

Just a little idea, floating around in the old bean.

Actually thats not too far off on what i'd like to see as well. I thought maybe a more advanced humanoid culture that left the planet earth before the final destruction from mankinds pollutants destroying the earths surface environment. Five cities are built underground and separated from the other but through large tubular tunnels. many years later, the earth is struck by a metorite shower and even further separates the cities from the other. Only people aware of their situation is the humanoid culture above the earths planet. These men and women have some high tech equipment that allow themselves to beam down to the planet and maintain the oxygen making machines in the long wind tunnels but do not have contact with the primitive humans on earth. In one city, only a few scientists have survived and there goal is to seal the hole above the earths atmosphere ...not knowing that there is a source of humanois living in space above them...until one of their humanoid crew members gets stuck in the tunnel after a metorite shower storms the one city on earth.

All life above ground destroyed by the suns radiation and the widening of the atmospheric hole.

I mean...there is a hole in our atmosphere as is...above the earth. What if we were to corporate using the Firefly/Sernade series into the storyline. In that way, the advanced humanoid culture is living above the earths planet that has some high tech but is still developing high technology and using resources off the neighboring planets (mining to generate fuels to survive etc)

Plus the weapons are primitive on board the space ships guarding the fleet and homes

(Firefly/Serenade TV Series).

That has the makings for an intriguing setting.

Although I am not familiar with the 'Firefly' series, the concept kind of reminds of the movie 'The Time Machine', only because of the two distinct peoples that exist on the planet, not they are anything like the 'Eloi' or 'Morlocks'.

I have found it quite difficult to define 'Sci-Fi' settings. They are so extensive.

We should hash this out further. I know that others are interested in a futuristic setting as well.

I can see androids that were in the Alien series the acted so human it was difficult to realize they were androids until something happened and they "bleed" white combined with terminater like cyborgs to enforce the prime directive.

I actually like where this story is headed and can't wait to see what ideas you all come up with so I c an begin to create a concept for this strange, androic like world.

To elaborate on Easy's idea and combine it with the 'android / synthetic person' concept we could have the tech level of the androids appear no different then what we currently have.

I have always thought that eventually technology will plateau to the point that our technology will not be revealed by 'devices' but rather it will be seamless with the world around us. What I mean is, the 'androids' left on Earth, will possess amazing technology within them, which may in fact, seem like magic, in a way. They of course, themselves have no idea, how to modify or improve it... it just is.

As time lingers on, the 'androids' become more human-like and their own origins become foggy at best, due to the loss of historical data. Data which has been purposely stripped away by those synthetic life forms that are in charge. The idea being that they wish to completely divorce themselves from their Human masters.

The Humans would have long moved on from Earth and settled in interplanetary colonies, some within the Solar system and some beyond, colonizing distant stars.

So we have an Android world on Earth. The questions are:

Do we eventually leave Earth?

How significant will be the visits of the Humans or Humanoids (since enough time will have elapsed for new Human species to develop)?

Then we would have to define our parameters. I have found it's easier to list of the 'nots'.

Such as establishing, that there will be no Star Trek aliens. I prefer to follow Frank Hebert's (The Dune Series) depiction of the future. Human's change as they adapt to their new home worlds, and I have seen this idea expanded upon by other authors where some Human's grow significantly taller or become smaller as well. We can even incorporate genetic manipulation, thus allowing, for example, aquatic people for a 'water world' environment or perhaps a planet that would only support life beneath water. So long as a writer puts some 'scientific' thought behind their creation, anything can go, we just wouldn't want someone making up a race with abilities that unrealistic. While we as species mutilate our bodies out of vanity, most differences would still be based on adaptions for environments that would be variations of Earth. This is of course a subject that can beaten to death, so I'll put a sock in it.

Here we can maybe use this storyline I've been working on and off for some time now...we can add and take out whatever works for the group...Its called the AVALON PROJECT
[size=16]The Avalon Project

IN TODAYS NEWS 24 December 4010

The Global Nation of Planets security council met at the infamous space station Guran. The security council voted on resolution number #513 and placed a ban on the grant that funded the controvestial 'Avalon Project' since the paranormal event took place outside the city of Titshiu on the 3rd planet.

The 'Paranormal School of Science' having considered the Avalon Project as being of scientific value received notice of the rejection and were furious. The school wanted to continue the project due to the paranormal event being a success. The time machine sent a team of scientists back in time and rescued Miles D. McGuire who witnessed the destruction of the earths surface, 1000 years ago. The mining of the moon exploded in pieces that ripped the atmospheric hole in the earths gravity. Giant moon rock slammed into the earths surface and jolted the balance of the earth's gravitional spin. Explosions and fire ripped through cities that left the cities destroyed on the earths surface and the five colonies under the earths surface were separated by many earthquakes. The earths surface turned grey with no oxygen and many died.

The five colonies lost on the earths surface were still intact under the surface, but many people died when the explosion took place.

The moon mining accident caused an uproar amongst many people already living on the space station and life seem to go nowhere until the alliance with other planets who joined together to fight the dark force beyond the 28th pararel.

A spokesperson from the Global Nation of Planets security council seem stressed. A letter from the space station technician Miles D. McGuires, who was rescued by the team had these words to say...Gentlemen, if we can go back in time to save the earth from its own destruction then we should. Earth flourished at one time...seas as bright and blue....wild grasses as green blankets covered the lands...snow like white powder covered the mountains...this is lost like the five colonies...we have the technology we should go back in time and stop the advancement of companies like Trump Industires mining the moon or at least rescue the people's lives loss.

The unauthorized visit back in history to 3010 left the Global Nations of Planets in an uproar and have declined to make a comment to the recent investment by Avalon Technology Group, Inc. who arranged the funding to invest more stock in the Avalon project thru private investors, who are new strategic partners interested in the time machine and history

Sir Easy, please take note that I have created, two new topics in Grimnir's Inn both entitled 'The Avalon Project'. Once we have established the bones of the story a new topic can be created entitled, The Avalon Project - Chapter 1 and the story can begin. Once stories gain popularity in Grimnir's Inn, they are granted their own forum.

hi all, just thought I'd chime in with my opinion!

I think both Tiphereth's Androids and Sir Easy's Avalon Project will be very interesting stories. But in reading both descriptions (and Sir Easy's introduction piece)...it almost feels like they should be two separate creations. Maybe set in the same universe--Sir Easy's right around the time of the human abandonment of Earth, and then Tiphereth's perhaps a century later? Although truth be told, I think they may stand perfectly well individually also.

What does everyone else think? Question

Whatever works out, I am definitely looking forward to having a sci-fi story to jump into. What a Face

Y'know... if you check out the Archives, I did work on a Sci-Fi Idea, called 'OFF-WORLD', a title with a dual meaning, really.

Perhaps, if people would be interested in having a Sci-Fi story line... one that is not dominated by Trekies or Star Wars Junkies... just your generic futuristic world, along the lines of Alien or Chronicles of Riddick sort of stuff (which I personally feel is generic Sci-fi) that could be used as shell. Within that setting, we create what ever settings we wish on other worlds or Earthling colonies.

How does that sound? Perhaps check it out Off-World and let me know your thoughts.

Actually I like the idea of the androids being part of the storyline. I mean think about it...Planet earth planet life destroyrd by its own toxins..and androids are set on earth to help colonize 7 colonies on earth with scientists trying desperately to find a way to close the black hole sucking out precious oxygen from the atmosphere. Scores of space ships launched into space to form an alliance, 700 years have passed and finally a living plant has survived long enough for humanoids to return to earth to rebuild cities and live in harmony with androids...sort of like DUNE, FIREFLY, WALLE and a couple other sci fic storys put together...

New Concept:

THE WORLD OF PRIMUS (Age of Mythology rip off)

I was thinking, it would be nice to have a story line that adhered to classic Greek mythology, and then I thought, why stop there, we can incorporate Norse, Persian, Japanese, etc...

This world may begin within the Plains of Gladsheim forum since it is essentially of a fantasy class, but that all depends of course upon its popularity and whether or not it may just get too crowded in there.

The idea is quite simple:

The gods of Earth were real, beings whose very existence was derived from worship — incarnations of the Human psyche that became sentient entities of great power. They were born to rule and offer guidance to those that created them and thus when their own existence was threatened they had to take action.

With the decline of the pagan faiths due to the coming of the 'One God', the old gods banned together to preserve themselves. They used what remained of their power to steal away those most faithful of their worshipers and traveled to far off galaxy to a world not unlike Earth which they called PRIMUS.

In the beginning, their worshipers were provided for. Gods, such as Ares for example, provided for his Spartans, and granted them a city which they called Lycurga (after the legendary 'law giver', Lycurgus of Sparta). After these places were established, and the gods appreciated once more the gods unleashed their people upon their new world.

The gods had given life to Primus, but in doing so they had no control over what came to be and since monsters such as the Gorgons and the like followed the gods to their new world, evil creatures such as these influenced life. These demi-god monsters like the gods sought to make the world suit their needs and thus many other creatures were born into the world, monsters, and beings like Centaurs, Satyrs, Dryads, Light Elves, Oni, etc...

These different cultures were separated for centuries, but now they are coming together, meeting in the grandest and most powerful city of the time — a city given the name 'Athens' which is the center of the civilized world.

________________________________

So everything will basically start in Athens, which is essentially the Greek civilization all over again. Characters will basically be Humans, since it is a world where they rule and all others are driven away.

Another cool idea would be to start a story in the Hyborean Age, which for those of you not familiar time is basically the world of Conan the Barbarian. Essentially, it a fantasy world loosely based on the current continents of Earth but Atlantis exists and the history of the world has been re-written to accommodate a time of 'high adventure'.

I have a map that could be used and aside from that it would be a matter of using one's imagination to develop the different cultures in accordance to those people mentioned in the stories of Conan. A little research would probably be necessary for those people not familiar with the stories, but the map I was thinking of employing is actually a little different than ones used in the novels. It is actually from a different scenario, but one very similar to the Hyborean age.

This would be a world mainly dominated by the common mythologies: Greek, Norse, Indian, African and Asian cultures. The stories would center around epic quests and the like.

Magic is extremely rare and Wizards, Witches and Sorcerers uncommon and often not accepted by society as they are associated with the unnatural creatures of the world which are generally viewed as being evil. The magic would be more old school and its use would have serious implications.

There are no other races one can choose other than Human. Demi-humans exist, but they are not part of society.

Ah, the classics... the Iliad... the Odyssey... the Simpsons... hehe...

I feel that most of us have an adequate grasp on mythology, I mean who at least doesn't know the difference between a griffon and a hippogriff?

I think writing from a mythological perspective would be quite interesting and intuitive, making for a very cohesive story.

I'll draft something up and then we can develop it from there.

Had a tiny idea for a story enter the vacum between my ears. Thought I'd run it up the flag pole and see how it flies with everyone.

A 1930's setting say, New York, Los Angeles, proabition is over. A time of Private eyes, Shamas's, Shysters, gang and political bosses and corruption, international crime and intrigue. A time when Hollwood was Hollywood. The movies were kings. A time of Bogart, Tracy, Hepburn, Cagney, Gable, Lombard ect. A time when the first rumblings of world war were barely autale.
